Okay, so I've been completely geeking out lately with the spreadsheet thing. I'm not afraid to admit this either. I work in the IT field, so I figure doing something like this is expected of me.
I got the great idea the other night while Kev and I were driving home from the cottage to put a list together of my favourite retail and online yarn stores including what items I go there for specifically. I figured it would give me a good idea of where everyone was should I need a good fix while I'm out and about. That and it would save Kev's sanity since everytime we pass through a different town I tend to muse aloud about the possible existence of a yarn store in the area. I thought I was being so smart, until...
I found this: (*drumroll please as you click on the swashbuckling yarn balls*)
Okay did anyone else know this existed?!?!
If so, why has noone told me about it yet?? EESH! *snicker*
Oh I can't be upset that I've been naive to this for so long. I know about it now and I'm passing along the knowledge in the hopes that it will help my knitterly buds out there know where the good LYS is at all times.
At any rate, if you didn't know about it be sure to check it out. Kudos to Stacy McDowell and Matt King who are the curators of the site. I bow to you and your internet-y prowess. Your uber smartness and knowledge of all things website-ish have come together in an attempt to unite all knitters, crafters and crocheters (okay that last one always looks wrong when I type it...makes me giggle...*titter titter*).
So FLY my friends! Be free! Go find your next favourite LYS! And if yours isn't on there, for GODS sake add it for the rest of us. Weeeeee!
*WARNING* The previous blog post was the result of too much caffeine, chocolate and yarn imbibed on a Tuesday of the first full week back to work since the holidays. No yarn or bloggers were harmed in the writing of this post*
All good things,
Morrighana

Thanks for the link and the kind words about KnitMap! I'm glad you're excited about it.
Right now, we're pretty much relying on word of mouth to get the information out. I posted a couple of posts on Ravelry and a couple of other knitting group sites when we first launched, and its taken on a life of its own.

Thanks for the great link! I am so glad to have found this--and just in time, since I'm heading East this week! I'm going to link to it on my blog, too--we need to spread the word!

Fortunately this is catching on; we have a lovely Travel Book here (US) too, which is tucked permanently into my car, available even if one doesn't have one's little innernet on hand. Nothing like a good Yarn Crawl to add sparkle to ANY trip (especially for those of us who are not, by nature, enthusiastic travellers). Thanks for the tip!
