Okay so here’s the deal. My husband is of the opinion that I don’t need any more yarn. He thinks my stash has reached maximum capacity and any minute now we’re going to have a clutter nova. Of course I, being an avid knitter and lover of all things fibery, think said husband is wrong. Perhaps he feels that there is no other stash out there bigger than mine? HA I say…HA! Double HA and a hee hee hee!
Don’t get me wrong, he’s been very patient with me and the overflowing baskets in our basement. I understand that the waves of colour may be blinding when he goes down to our basement to use his computer. I even sympathize with his fatigue brought on by me dragging him into every yarn store from here to Toledo! But I still think he’s wrong. I love you sweetie…but I assure you there are other stashes out there bigger than mine. And when you are a knitter, size does matter…
So here’s where you, my fellow knitters, come in. I wanna see your stashes! That’s right…I wanna see the biggest stash I’ve ever seen so I’m hosting a contest here!
Here’s what you gotta do: Go get your camera and take some pictures of all those mountains of beautiful fiber and come back…I can wait.
Okay, done? Now, what I want you to do is email me your picture. Tell me how many skeins, balls, etc you have within said stash. If you have way too much to count, a very good estimate will suffice, but let’s be honest here people, okay? All’s fair in love and yarn…and if all goes well; I will be doing this again in the new year.
Don’t be ashamed of your stash! Pull it out of those nooks and crannies and pile it all up so we can all adore the beauty that is your yarn. (I think I saw the Yarn Harlot post a picture of yarn stashed in her liquor cabinet once…now I KNOW my stash isn’t that far out of control!)
Now you are probably asking “Why should I do this?” Well the answer is simple… cause you can WIN STUFF!! WOOT! A knitterly care package to be exact! I’m putting together a knitter’s care package to be mailed out to the person with the picture (and a count) of the largest stash! Men are included in this so don’t be shy gents!
Don’t have a very big stash? No worries! I have a little something for the person with the smallest stash too (no cheating!!). Something to help you on your way to enhancing the addiction you’ve been nursing since you started knitting. Okay, so the rundown just to be clear:
1. Take a picture of your stash and count up the balls of yarn therein said stash.
2. Email the final count and the picture to me at Meredith @t fireopal DOT ca by Wednesday December 20th, 2006 (that’s two weeks from today.)
3. Remember to include the address of your website or blog if you have one so I can plug it for you!
4. My husband will review the pictures and the yarn counts once all entries are in and will decide which stash is the largest based on the facts.
5. I will be announcing the winners of the Largest Stash and the Smallest stash as well as posting the pictures up on my blog.
6. DISCLAIMER: If you are the owner of a yarn store or you make yarn to sell at home, please do not include that yarn in your pictures. The stash I’m talking about is your own personal stash that you intend to knit with.
Hope to hear from you all, really soon! The contest is officially open!!
All good things,
Morrighana

I'm moving in a week and I have not packed the yarn yet, I don't have that much, but it'll be fun to count how much I have, by the way, I'm doing "inventory" first, with samples and everything ;-)

What a fun contest! I think my stash is small compared to what I've seen on-line, but it will still to fun to pose all my yarn and give it a real photo shoot!

Oh God. A picture I might be able to handle but COUNTING!? You want me to die of shock this weekend? Gah!

Oh dear. That would require a trip off-campus, so to speak, since I have a fair amount of yarn in a storage unit as well as the Great Wall o' Rubbermaid around here. I don't hide yarn in the oven yet, though, so I guess it's not too bad? I don't know if I'm brave enough to 'fess up how much I have.

well, I definately don't have the largest so I'll try for the smallest. ;)

Ohmigosh, counting? Do I want to know? But...wait...rooms of yarn? Phew, I'm nowhere near that amount.
Hmm, now I'm kinda curious....okay, where's my camera?

I would do this, but i alreay know a few knitters that have ROOMS dedicated to their yarn....I'm not naming names, but if you check out some pictures of FLASH YOUR STASH on April 1st of the last year or two, your husband will be quieted FOR LIFE! lol
Fun contest!
